Meanwhile, waste from poultry farming is also used and sold as farm manure or sieved to be animal feeds. Therefore the farmers need to be well informed about how to best rear chickens and maximize chicken produce to make the most profit.

To succeed in poultry farming and especially chicken layers, a farmer needs to well know a flock’s production capabilities, how to budget and plan for poultry feeds, when to expect the first eggs, factors that may influence the onset of laying eggs, and when to expect big production.

If you are putting the chicken feeders and drinkers in the backyard, make sure it has a leak-proof hat to protect them from weather conditions that may destroy them. The feeder should be raised by a stand or raised with a couple of bricks. Meanwhile, some chicken feeders come with legs or you can simply hang the feeders up. There are some plastic and metal feeders, as normally Plastic feeders are used for first-time poultry farmers keeping just a couple of hens or cocks; metal poultry Feeders are more durable, as well know quality is based on price, and simple plastic feeders don’t have enough space for even distribution of feed, and as the plastic feeder is lightweight that it is easily knocked over or broken. It is advisable to have a sizable poultry feeder that will carry enough feed daily. Most tower poultry waterers have their center section turned upside down for filling, it is reattached to the base and set upright for the birds to drink from. Just pls note that there are drinkers with locking bases and push-on bases. Most cheap plastic chicken drinkers come with push-on bases that they can be difficult to fill, and they get easily blocked leaving the birds thirsty. Then you can use either a plastic drinker or a metal drinker. Metal drinkers are more durable while plastic drinkers are less expensive. The drinker should be placed above ground level and kept away from direct sunshine to prevent algae and keep the water cold. Make sure you would get a suitable drinker and also clean water to be supplied.

Poultry Birds Feeding and Drinking

Chicken Layers should be fed with adequate layers’ mash and broilers with growers’ mash.

Poultry birds need a balanced diet with all the necessary nutrients for healthy body growth for optimum production.

This includes protein and calcium for layers for maximum egg production.

The birds should also be provided with enough clean drinking water to help with digestion, egg production, and proper growth.

But how do then can provide clear water and feeds to your birds? It is an important question and you have to well know to use them to increase your poultry production.

Poultry Lighting

The duration of exposure to light should also be moderated. Exposure to light for less than the minimum time ideally 14 hours of daylight results to a drop in egg production. When lights are off poultry birds do not feed which leads to low egg  production.

Timely vaccination

A farmer should always remember to vaccinate the birds in time against pests and diseases, give them vitamins and remember to debeak them too to maintain good health.

Poultry Housing

The Chicken house should be well secured to keep away predators, be spacious enough for the birds to walk around freely, and have proper ventilation for fresh air supply.

The Poultry housing structure should protect the birds from adverse temperatures such as cold or extreme heat. Cause extreme heat or cold affects production and may cause mortality highlights. The chicken coop and poultry brooder should be kept clean, dry, and sanitized to reduce moisture that encourages disease-causing organisms. The coops must provide shelter and protection for the birds that will live in them. The coops must be big enough for the chickens to live comfortably by allowing them room to flap their wings, walkabout, and build comfortable chicken nests. Chicken coops must also be hygienic—featuring changeable flooring (like sawdust, wood chips, or sand), ventilation, and room for humans to clean. Chicken coops must also provide warmth through insulation, heat lamps, or extra poultry bedding and chicken nesting material. If building a new coop, make sure you consider the following: site selection, drainage, noise, odor, ease of access, and the number of chickens you intend to keep.

A good chicken coop will provide your chicken birds with shade and shelter, freedom from draughts, and protection from the rain.

Breeding

This can make egg-laying breeds more productive with large laying flocks.

It consists of identifying the most productive females and their male offspring and using these birds to create a line that performs exemplary on the farm

Record keeping

A farmer should keep records on the poultry such as vaccination dates, and production rates such as egg-laying birds for easy tracking to assess performance and to know where to improve efficiency.

Handling of birds

Birds should be protected from sudden changes, disturbances, rough handling, and foreign visitors’ interference as this might stress them lowering production.
