In summer, the temperature is getting higher and higher, sheep need to make appropriate adjustments, such as feeding and management. The critical point is to prevent sheep from heat stress and mosquito disturbance, through scientific feeding and management, in fact, summer is also a good season for raising sheep. After entering the summer, the feeding time and feed ratio should be adjusted to improve the feed intake and digestibility of the sheep. The decrease in the feed intake of sheep in summer is primarily related to high temperatures and high humidity. Feeding when the weather is cool helps to increase the feed intake of sheep.
Sheep like a dry environment and don’t like to live in a narrow, humid, and dirty environment. In summer, the temperature is volatile, and because of the rain, the humidity is relatively high. Fat is extremely unfavorable, so it is necessary to strengthen the management of the environment of mutton sheep and provide them with a comfortable living environment.
01. Heatstroke prevention and cooling
High temperatures and high humidity in summer are the main reasons that affect the appetite and health of sheep. Sheep farmers should prepare various facilities for cooling and dehumidifying sheep houses before summer.
In summer, heatstroke prevention and cooling work should be done well, and weeds around the sheep's house should be removed frequently. Air convection windows should be installed at the bottom of the north and south walls of the sheep house to enhance ventilation; a sunshade should be installed on the sunny side of the sheep house to avoid direct sunlight; can be painted with white lime, or built a sunshade; also can increase the green area around the sheep house, improve the microclimate. In addition, screen doors and screen windows should be installed in sheep houses to prevent flies and mosquitoes from entering.
02. Do a good job in environmental sanitation
Pay attention to the environmental sanitation, ventilation, and moisture-proof of the sheep house, keep the sheep house clean and dry, and do a good job in the prevention and treatment of sheep mange and other parasites. There are many mosquitoes and flies in summer, which will not only disturb the normal feeding and rest of sheep but also spread diseases and affect the health of sheep. Therefore, preventing mosquitoes and flies has become an important task for raising sheep in summer. Anti-mosquito and fly control should use multiple methods together:The first is to do a good job of sanitation inside and outside the sheep's house, clean up the feces in time and carry out accumulation and fermentation, and not leave puddles around the sheep farm. If it is necessary to keep puddles, you can put quicklime or drugs to eliminate mosquito larvae;
Secondly, some pyrethrum, mint, rosemary, lavender and other plants that have the effect of repelling mosquitoes and flies can be planted inside and outside the sheep farm; Phototaxis destroys them;
In addition, mosquitoes and flies can also be eliminated and repelled by regularly spraying around the sheep's house. Generally, drugs such as trichlorfon, pyrethrin, and phoxim can be selected. Be careful not to spray the drugs directly on the sheep's body, feeding through, or water tank. , so as not to cause sheep poisoning.
03. Reasonable grazing
In hot summer, sheep love to gather together and cannot get enough to eat. In the morning, grazing should go out early and return early. Generally, you can go out grazing as soon as the dew dries. From 11:00 noon to 3:00 p.m., let the sheep rest and eat grass in the pen, and harvest at 7:00 p.m.04. Heat dissipation and dry sheep
In summer, sheep are prone to get angry and get sick. Therefore, in order to ensure the health of the sheep, it is very important to dry the sheep every day. When grazing sheep at noon, don't rush into the sheepfold. You can let the sheep rest and drink water directly under the shade of trees. After grazing at night, the sheep can be put into pens after drying for a period of time. Every time you graze and reap the sheep, don't rush to drive the sheep. You should let the sheep walk slowly and let the body cool down.
05. Strengthen nutrition
In the hot season, it is necessary to strengthen the nutrition of the sheep, increase the nutrient concentration of the diet, and further enhance the resistance of the sheep to the high-temperature environment. Adult sheep should be supplemented with about 200 grams of concentrate per day; freshly weaned lambs should be supplemented with about 100 grams of concentrate per day. As the feed intake of the sheep decreases, the frequency of feeding should be increased.
06. Increase water and replenish salt
In the hot and high-temperature season, clean water should be kept in the sheep's water basin, so that the sheep can drink freely. Add 0.2 grams of salt per kilogram of body weight to maintain the acid-base balance in the sheep.
07. Shearing fleece
Thick wool and cashmere can keep warm and keep out the cold. In the cold winter, it can reduce the loss of body temperature and energy consumption of the sheep. However, it will become an obstacle to the heat dissipation of the sheep in summer. Shearing and fleece only.Sheep shearing and fleece should be carried out when the weather is good, sheep shearing, goat fleece, and goats can also be sheared if cashmere is not required. Generally, sheep are sheared in a side-lying position. The breeder uses an electric shearer or scissors to quickly cut off the wool on one side, then turns the sheep over and cuts the wool on the other side. The wool on the abdomen is kept to prevent the sheep from lying down. When the abdomen is cold.
Goat fleece is generally used in a standing position. After securing it, use a fleece comb to comb the fleece repeatedly from front to back until the fluff is combed clean.
Medicated baths for sheep after shearing and fleece can better expel ectoparasites. You can choose 0.01% trichlorfon solution or 0.01% amitraz solution for medicated baths for sheep. Before the medicated bath, the sheep must Drink enough water to avoid poisoning caused by drinking the medicated bath liquid during the medicated bath. If there is no condition for the medicated bath, you can also choose to spray the body with the medicated liquid to repel insects.
08. Trimming sheep's hooves
In summer, due to high temperatures and high humidity, sheep are particularly prone to foot and foot diseases such as foot rot and laminitis. Trimming sheep's hooves before summer can effectively reduce the incidence of foot and foot diseases.The trimming of sheep's hooves should be done after rain, or the sheep's hoofs should be soaked and softened with 3%~5% copper sulfate solution, which will make it easier to trim the hooves. The sheep can be fixed on the side or standing. When lying on the side, the hoof trimmer presses the hock of the lamb leg with his knees. When standing and fixing the hoof trimmer, the hoof trimmer clamps the hock of the lamb leg with two thighs to prevent the hoof of the sheep from If the head is disturbed, it will affect the hoof trimming. When trimming the hooves, first use a 1-shaped hoof trimming knife to remove impurities and hoof rot in the hooves, and then use a 7-shaped hoof trimming knife or fruit tree shears to remove excess hoof quality. Trim from the outside to the inside, and do not trim at one time If it is too much, it is usually repaired until the reddish capillaries can be seen. If you continue to trim it, you will bleed. If you bleed slightly, you can apply a tincture of iodine to disinfect it. The trimmed sheep's hooves should have a flat bottom, a square shape, and the same height as the two forelimbs and the two hind legs. The deformed hooves should be trimmed and corrected several times.
09. Anti-storm attack
There are many thunderstorms in summer, and sheep are prone to catch a cold and have a fever when exposed to rain, resulting in fat loss. When grazing, if possible, you can bring a large piece of tarpaulin that can accommodate the sheep, fasten the four corners to the roots of the big tree, and use a thicker wooden stick to support the middle, so that the sheep can shelter from the rain in time. In addition, avoid grazing on steep slopes during lightning and thunder to prevent sheep from being frightened and injured.
10. Pay attention to disease prevention and treatment
Pay attention to the mental state, appetite, and feces of the sheep at any time, and pay special attention to the disease prevention and treatment of lambs. When an infectious disease or suspected infectious disease occurs, it should be isolated immediately, and a veterinarian should be asked to observe and treat it in time. The corpses of dead sheep should be properly disposed of, deeply buried, or incinerated, so as to cut off the source of the disease, control the epidemic, and extinguish it in time.
